John Omernik

John Omernik is currently the Principal of St. Ignatius School in the Hunt’s Point area of the Bronx.  Prior to his work at St. Ignatius School he spend 3 years living and teaching at an orphanage and school sponsored by the Christian Brothers in Mexico City.  Prior to his work in Mexico City he was Principal of De Marillac Academy in San Francisco.  In addition to his administrative duties at De Marillac, he served as the Director of Finance and Director of Technology.  Mr. Omernik joined De Marillac in the summer of 2001, and has worked in the field of elementary education since 1994.  He has taught kindergarten, third grade and sixth grade in self-contained classrooms at St. Dominic’s and St. Brigid’s Schools.  While at St. Dominic’s, he also initiated the development of a computer lab and designed computer training curriculum for grades one through eight.  Mr. Omernik coauthored a children’s picture book which uses rhyme and rhythm to instruct beginning readers.  Prior to entering the field of education, he worked as a CPA and consultant for Ernst and Young and later as a financial analyst for Simpson Paper Company.  Mr. Omernik earned an Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration for the University of Notre Dame.  He has several degrees from the University of San Francisco:  a Masters in Business Administration, a California Teaching Credential, and a Master of Arts in Educational Technology.  He has begun coursework in USF’s Doctoral Program in School Leadership and completed the Lasallian Leadership Institute.
