In September 2012, HPAC hosted the annual Hunts Point Back to School attended by over 500 community members. The 2012 fair was planned coordination with the national Green Apple Day of Service. The collaboration featured Hyde Leadership Academy students, community volunteers, and City Year Corps members repainting portions of the school building shared with MS 424. More than 20 groups provided activities, entertainment, and program information. Highlights included welcome remarks by Rueben Diaz, Jr., the Bronx Borough President, a musical performance by the PS 48 chorus, and a pop-up playground provided by the Sarah Lawrence Child Development Institute, which brought recycled materials for children to build robots and other imaginative creatures. The event was catered by JVL Wildcat Apprentice Chefs and City Year Corps members provided invaluable support.
